MUSKEGON, Mich. – After the sudden and tragic passing of the freedom fighter Andrew Breitbart, we at Education Action Group wanted to do something to remember his life and mission.  We created the “Andrew Breitbart Memorial Essay Contest.”

Students from across the country submitted essays answering the question “What does America mean to you?”

The following are the winners, as decided by the public.  Each winner receives $500 and two runners-up each receive $250.

High (9-12):

Winner: Gillian Tobin, home school, Texas

Runners-up: Stephanie Pardell and Ailiyah Alim

Middle (6-8):

Winner: Madelyn Lacroix, Mahone Middle School, Wisconsin

Runners-up: Cecelia Tobin and Ethan Higgins

Winner: Victoria North, Trimble Local Middle School, Ohio

Runners-up: Josiah Higgins and Amanda Ross
