BEAUMONT, Texas – The National Football League has recently cracked down on hits to defenseless receivers, but apparently they should be monitoring hits to defenseless students as well.

football team punchReginald Wells, a 7th grader at Willie Ray Smith Middle School in Beaumont, Texas, never realized just how diehard one of his teachers was about football.

That is, until his teacher blindsided him after Wells made a joke about his favorite football team.

“The last person’s voice I heard was some girl saying that I should call my mom, and then he like hit me, and I blacked out,” Wells told 12newsnow.com.

Wells said he had stopped in the hallway to talk with an assistant teacher from his math class, when he cracked the joke about the teacher’s favorite team.

The joke apparently did not sit well with the teacher because he started to swing at the 4’ 11” inch student.

“All of a sudden he just hit me, in my shoulder … and I looked at him like ‘what the heck?’”

The hit to the shoulder was followed up with a punch that blindsided Wells and knocked him out cold for a few seconds.

“The left side of my face was numb … my lip hurt… my head was hurt, like it had been shaken,” he said.

Another teacher witnessed the altercation and reported everything to the building principal.

“(The principal) said Reginald was punched, in the shoulder, and then hit two times and uppercut, and then slid across the floor,” Well’s mother, Adrianne, said. “It weighed heavy on my heart, because I’ve never put my hands on my son.”

The teacher was reportedly escorted off the premises and fired on the spot, but not before he got in a final blow to Wells.

“He said ‘I can’t apologize for what I did, I was just having a bad day and I just snapped,’” Wells reported.

Adrianne can’t believe that they let the teacher walk away without pressing charges.

“For you to just let a teacher do that to him and just walk off, he’s fired and walks off, I can’t accept that,” she said in the report.

She is currently seeking legal representation and has filed a report with the local police department. She said she is planning on pressing charges against the teacher.
