RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A former California teacher/school administrator has been charged with numerous felonies after allegations that she sexually abused students came to light more than 13 years after the fact.

Andrea Cardosa was charged Monday with five counts of aggravated sexual assault on a child and 11 other counts of abuse by the Riverside County District Attorney’s office, reports the New York Daily News.

The accusations first surfaced when Jamie Carrillo, now 28, recently recorded a phone conversation she had with Cardosa about the alleged abuse, which reportedly began when she was 12. The educator acknowledged the molestation during the phone conversation.

Carrillo posted the recording of the conversation on YouTube and the video quickly went viral.

The victim said she chose to publicly reveal the alleged crimes because she thought that the statute of limitations would prevent the teacher from being criminally charged, the story reports.

However, John Hall, the district’s Senior Public Information Specialist, said that the statute of limitations does not apply in this case because the five counts of aggravated sexual assault carry potential life sentences.

Cardosa is also facing charges stemming from another younger alleged victim, who came forward shortly after Carrillo.

At this time, the district is only aware of the two victims; however, officials say they understand that others who may come forward as well.

“We’ve only charged her with two victims but as with any time you have a case like these there’s always a potential that there may be more victims out there,” Hall said.

Teacher gets tattoos in effort to discredit victims

A fired Pittsburgh high school teacher has been sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for having sexual contact with two students, reports the Huffington Post.

Michael White, 31, was charged last February after two teenage girls alleged he had sexual conduct with them.

One victim, a 16-year-old, came forward claiming that the teacher had sex with her, while the other, a 15-year-old, came forward saying that the teacher had fondled her. The older victim also accused the teacher of forcing her to perform lap dances for male students.

When talking to investigators, the two victims said that they didn’t see any tattoos on the teacher when the contact was made in late 2012, the story reports.

Denying the girls accusations, White used the defense that if the allegations were true, the students would have noticed his tattoos.

However, the former teacher was caught in his own lie when county prosecutors found a tattoo artist who confirmed that White received the tattoos after the date of the encounters.

White pleaded guilty to the charges back in November.
