ORADELL, N.J. – River Dell Middle School teacher and part-time actor Richard Graffanino could be fired after showing his students a supposedly risqué video of himself “partially clothed and in bed with a woman,” according to NJ.com.

The newspaper reports an arbitrator has ruled that he should be fired.

“It conveys the impression that the characters are waking up after having sex the night before,” arbitrator Walt De Treux wrote. “The pair is lying on their backs, with a sheet covering the woman just below her bare shoulders and covering Graffanino’s character to his waistline, exposing his bare torso. The actors engage in some brief, awkward small talk, and they kiss as the actress rolls on top of Graffanino’s character … ”

The arbitrator’s ruling states there was a litany of complaints against the teacher:

  • allegedly showing a sexual, inappropriate video in class;
  • discussing a personal relationship he allegedly had with another teacher; and
  • inappropriately using food when interacting with students.

The ruling also claims he “exhibited unprofessional and unbecoming conduct ‘by favoring female students over male students when grading.’”

Graffanino denied playing the risqué video in his class but the arbitrator interviewed six students and found his denial “not to be credible,” according to the paper.

The arbitrator determined the charges “warrant dismissal or deduction in salary.”
