FORT PIERCE, Fla. – A criminal justice teacher is getting a real life lesson on the inner workings of the judicial system.
Fort Pierce Central High School teacher Sharonda Johnson is accused of renting a laptop computer from Rent-A-Center on April 17, TCPalm.com reports.

An arrest affidavit states she tried to pawn it at a pawnshop for $75 later the same day.
The 2009 Distinguished Minority Teacher of the Year was charged with “third-degree grand theft, giving false information to a pawnbroker and dealing in stolen property,” according to the paper.
She’s been employed by the St. Lucie County School District since 1994.
Johnson isn’t the only former Teacher of the Year to run afoul with the law.
In September, a Virginia teacher was charged with assault “after police said he cut several inches of hair off of a woman at a middle school,” CBS 6 reports.
According to the news station:
On Sunday police arrested 61-year-old Melvin D. Hunt. Chesterfield Police said they responded to Elizabeth Davis Middle school around 3:30 p.m. Friday, for a reported assault that happened in the parking lot.
The female victim said she met Hunt in the school parking lot and got into his car. He told her that she did not need to travel with him on a trip they had planned for awhile.
After that decision was made, he asked the woman for a hug. As she leaned in, he allegedly grasped her firmly and then cut-off her hair.

Hunt is “physical education coordinator” at Riverside School in North Chesterfield, according to the outlet.
He was the Virginia Middle school PE Teacher of the Year in 2007.
In August, the 2014 North Dakota Teacher of the Year, Aaron Knodel, was arrested and charged with five felonies stemming from a sexual relationship he allegedly had with a student five years ago.
The teacher had a court appearance Sept. 5 and was “allowed to freely leave the courtroom on a $10,000 bail,” according to WDAY.
