MOBILE, Ala. – An Alabama school reportedly forced a 5-year-old to sign a contract without her mother’s knowledge.

WPMI reports the girl’s parent, going only as Rebecca, believe the school crossed the line when she required her daughter to sign a “safety contract.”

It all happened at the E. R. Dickson Elementary in Alabama’s Mobile County Public School System.

“They told me she drew something that resembled a gun,” Rebecca says.

“According to them she pointed a crayon at another student and said, ‘pew pew,”’ according to the mother.

The girl was then given a survey to “evaluate her for suicidal thoughts.”

“[They] asked her if she was depressed now,” the mother tells Local 15 TV.

The 5-year-old was then given a Mobile County Public School Safety Contract to sign stating she wouldn’t kill herself or others.

“While I was in the lobby waiting they had my 5-year-old sign a contract about suicide and homicide,” Rebecca says.

The school district has so far ignored media requests on the situation.

“My child interrupted us and said, ‘What is suicide mommy? Daddy what is suicide?” the mother tells WPMI.

“As a parent that’s not right. I’m the one should be able to talk to my child and not have someone else mention words like this in front of her at all.”

The school district wants the 5-year-old to see a psychiatrist.

The news station reports minors cannot legally sign contracts in the state of Alabama.
