WEATHERFORD, Texas – A school bus driver in Texas was canned recently after he was allegedly busted sunbathing nude at a local middle school when school was out.

Mayford K. Davis, 69, was fired Oct. 27 and charged with disorderly conduct – indecent exposure after a witness called police the Sunday before and said they saw him laying out naked on the south side of Tison Middle School property around 12:30 p.m., the Weatherford Democrat reports.

Davis, who worked for the district’s bus contractor First Student, Inc., told police he often enjoys laying out nude at the school on the weekends because it helps with his vitamin D deficiency.

The caller reported that Davis was “nude and lying face down in the grassy area between the air conditioners and the outer fence on the southeast side of the main school building,” and an officer who arrived on scene allegedly found him pulling up his shorts on a lounge chair, according to the police report cited by the Democrat.

“As she reached (Davis), he was laying back on the tri-fold lounge chair with his shorts, socks and shoes on,” Commander Chris Davis said.

According to Fox, “Davis told the officers that he was sunbathing, did so often and hadn’t seen anyone else before at the school on Sunday afternoons.

“Davis added that he knew it would be the last 90-degree day for a while, that he wanted to sunbathe in a secluded place and needed the sunlight because he’s vitamin D deficient.”

Spokespeople for the Weatherford Independent School District and the Ohio-based First Students, Inc. initially would not discuss the incident, but later confirmed to the media that Davis was terminated from his bus driving position, then declined further comment.

Jack Owens criticized how the situation was handled.

“Had this been another faculty member, they would have been suspended, pending investigation,” Owens wrote. “This contractor fired a man based on an accusation. Gone are the days of innocent until proven guilty.”

Scott Luther believed a swift termination was the right course of action.

“He should not have been doing that at the school, regardless of when it was!” Luther posted to Facebook. “I agree with him getting fired! There are other places he could sunbath in the nude if he wanted to!”
