RICHMOND, Va. – Students are painting over a senior class mural at J.R. Tucker High School because some people were offended that it featured Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The mural was created by students on a low wall in the school courtyard and was not visible to motorists. School officials also approved the painting, which features trump pointing with the quote “If you’re going to be thinking you may as well think BIG,” The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

Alongside The Donald’s likeness, the two students who pained the mural added a disclaimer: “We do not endorse Trump.”

“The seniors at Tucker have a tradition of putting a mural in the courtyard,” Henrico County Public Schools spokesman Andy Jenks told the news site. “Once this mural was up, regardless of what was said, we had no objections to the mural itself.”

But some people did have objections.

“The discussion about the mural came at a time when Democrats and Republicans alike are denouncing Trump’s comments about a U.S.-born judge whose parents emigrated from Mexico,” according to the news site. “U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel is overseeing a case alleging that Trump University defrauded students.”

Several locals contacted WTVR to complain about the Trump mural, with one alleging “it has caused quite a stir on campus where the minority population is offended and there are even talks of vandalism.”

Jenks told WTVR in an email that the two students who created the mural painted over it Tuesday afternoon on their own volition.

“School leaders were prepared to let the mural stand, as they would have done for, say, a mural depicting the Democratic nominee,” Jenks wrote.

Both news site pointed out that Richmond also features two murals of Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders along Broad Street.

WTVR highlighted Trump’s unlikely rise to become the Republican presidential candidate as an inspiring motivation behind the mural quote.

“Few could honestly say that Trump has done anything other than ‘think big,’” according to the site. “He has built a Trump business empire and emerged as the sole Republican candidate in a 2016 presidential bid that many critics initially said would not be successful.”

Numerous folks who commented about the situation in the Times-Dispatch comments were disappointed that the student artists were seemingly pressured into erasing their work.

“Now that students are placated, they can go back to their safe spaces and coloring books,” AP Kell posted.

“People grow some!” Susan Reynolds added.

“Yup,” Julie Buchanan wrote. “That’s my high school.”
