PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Faculty at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work are offering students free transportation and extra credit to participate in a massive anti-Trump tantrum scheduled for next Tuesday.
Assistant to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Mary Patricia Elhattab sent an email to the school’s students and faculty last Thursday urging them to attend “A People’s Agenda for Change: National Day of Action” in downtown Pittsburgh to rally against Trump and fight for a variety of leftist causes, The Pitt Maverick reports.

“In the most recent election, we saw a demand for change. We saw that a majority of people are fed up with a rigged economy that benefits a few. We saw that people want an economy and political system that works for everybody, not just a select few,” the email read, according to PennLive.
“On November 29th, tens of thousands of people across the country will be taking part in a national day of action to declare a people’s agenda for change. People in every city in the country will be taking to the streets to raise the minimum wage, help workers organize, support undocumented workers, fight climate change, and confront structural racism and sexism.”

The missive directed readers to a link to sign up for the event and provided details for transportation from campus.
“The day is about taking a stand to say that Pittsburgh will not accept business as usual. Please join us and encourage your students to participate by offering them extra credit,” the email continued. “We have to fight harder than ever to make sure Pittsburgh is a safe home for everyone, and your participation in critical in this effort. Please forward this message to other faculty and students!”
Senior social work major Lindsey Hern told the Penn Maverick the “one-sided” email and others like it she’s received from the department are insulting to conservative students like herself.

“It’s really ostracizing when your own department sanctions an event that is so exclusive to one set of students,” she said.
The email came the same day that two anti-Trump protesters were arrested when they attempted to force their way into Litchfield Towers dormitory. The protesters, one a Pitt student, sparked a skirmish with campus police that ended with officers striking the unruly agitators with batons to subdue them, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
“Protesters attempted to enter Litchfield Towers lobby after being asked by university police to not do so,” Pitt spokesman Joseph Miksch said. “Subsequently two arrests were made by Pitt police. Charges for both arrestees include aggravated assault, resisting arrest and trespassing.”
Student social justice warriors on campus have also called on Chancellor Patrick Gallagher to declare the university a sanctuary campus, a request that’s gone unanswered by school officials, the Post-Gazette reports.
