UNION, S.C. – A South Carolina high-schooler allegedly told his teacher he planned to return to his school “with guns” after she busted him allowing another student to cheat off his test.

Union Public Safety officers arrested Austin Eugene Roark, 18, and charged him with threatening a public official over an incident last week in which he allegedly allowed another student to use his test paper at Union County High School, Fox Carolina reports.

“The teacher told both students they would receive zeros on the tests, at which time Roark reportedly said, ‘I am definitely coming back up here,’” according to the news site. “When the teacher asked why, Roark said ‘I am coming with guns,’ according to the (police) report.”

The incident occurred on Feb. 22, and Roark has since been booked into Union County jail and released on bond, the Spartanburg Herald Journal reports.

The Union Daily Times lists Roark among seniors at Union County High School who made the Principal’s Honor Roll for the first quarter of the 2016-17 school year.

Union County Schools Superintendent Bill Roach released a prepared statement about the teen’s arrest.

“We always hate it when students make poor choices. We have worked very hard this year to make our expectations clear and to provide assistance to students both academically and behaviorally,” he wrote.

“Despite our efforts, students sometimes still make poor choices and we then have to hold them accountable for those actions. In order to help students be College and Career Ready, we strongly feel that helping students learn what our society considers acceptable behavior is one of our priorities,” Roach continued. “Union County Schools continues to work with our parents and the community to educate the whole child so upon graduation students can be productive citizens.”

Several locals also weighed in on the situation in the Fox Carolina comments.

“Being an honor roll student does not give you the right to threaten to shoot up a school. Mental illness and intelligence are not related and anyone who threatens to kill a teacher likely has mental illness that should be treated,” Jessica Hubbard wrote. “Plenty of school shooters have been very smart!”

“He is in therapy ty,” Kayla Roark responded.

So happy to see the teacher and the superintendent holding students accountable for cheating. Many times in other districts the teacher gets no support in these situations,” Beth Cash posted. “Great job Union.”

“ … An 18 year old is not a child!” Elke Clark wrote. “This is an adult threatening murder!”

“Only God can judge us and he had a gun pulled on him at school,” Kayla Roark wrote. “He doesn’t own a gun it was said out of anger.”
