GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. – Officials at Brindlee Mountain High School suspended three students who allegedly conspired to pour urine in a substitute teacher’s drink.

Marshall County Schools Superintendent Cindy Wigley told WHNT the district is now pursing criminal charges against three students involved in the January 26 incident.

A well-respected female substitute was overseeing a class at the time, when a student alerted her that a classmate poured urine in her Yeti insulated. The teacher alerted administrators before taking a drink and school officials immediately launched an investigation, Wigley said.

According to AL.com:

A photo taken with Snapchat showed a student pouring a liquid, claimed to be urine, into a thermos. …

Another student, who said on Facebook that she was in the classroom at the time, claimed the incident happened after the substitute teacher told one student he could not go to the restroom.

The student urinated in a bottle, according to the Facebook post. Then, another student took the teacher’s drink, and another teen poured the urine into the thermos, the post states.

The Snapchat picture of the stunt, which was accompanied by the caption “Pourin pee in the subs yeti #savage,” circulated on social media and caused outrage among parents.

Wigley confirmed the school investigation revealed the liquid in the picture was urine, but told WHNT there are conflicting reports about how the situation unfolded. The teacher did not witness students taint her drink, but was alerted by another student. District officials suspended the students who were allegedly involved, and forwarded their investigation to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office for possible criminal charges.

“We are taking this very seriously, and once all of the facts have been gathered during our investigation, we’ll make sure appropriate action is taken,” Wigley said.

Many folks who commented online seem to believe school officials should make an example out of the pranksters.

“You little turds have two options,” sillydemocrats posted to the AL.com comments. “Drink a cup of pee or be expelled for the rest of the school year and repeat the grade.”

“I agree,” username8711 added. “These kids need to learn that there are real consequences for their actions. At that age they should know full well the difference between right and wrong in that situation and they should definitely receive a fitting punishment.”

The student who foiled the devious prank also deserves praise, username8711 added.

“I think one of the overlooked lessons comes from the student brave enough to alert the teacher. It takes courage to stand up for what is right especially in the fish bowl that is high school,” username8711 wrote. “Well done to that student. I have a little faith left in humanity.”

Others advocated for holding the students’ parents responsible for the incident.

“These students that are responsible should be punished severely. It’s not even close to funny. I think it’s disgusting and pretty bold to put urine in someone else’s drink and think it’s ok,” [email protected] wrote. “I think the parents need to be accountable as well. I think they should be accountable for the monsters they create.”

School and police officials are withholding the identities of the students involved because they are minors.
