MIAMI – A 30-year-old mother of a Florida high schooler faces a slew of charges after she allegedly beat up her daughter’s rival at school and later broke the girl’s fingers and smashed her car with an ax.
Police allege Ernstlatta LaFrance showed up at Carol City High School with her partner Erlisa Evans when classes let out on Monday to confront a group of girls who got into a recent fight with LaFrance’s teen daughter at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition, the Miami Herald reports.

Police allege LaFrance assaulted one of the girls, knocking her cell phone from her hand and striking her several times. Witnesses said LaFrance hit the 17-year-old in the face, then dragged her by her hair through the school parking lot, WPTV reports.
LaFrance allegedly took the girl’s phone, and when the teen went to her Opa-locka home later in the day to retrieve it, she attacked her again.
“The defendant took a stick and struck the victim’s right hand and the vehicle,” an officer wrote in the police report.
LaFrance allegedly broke the teen’s middle finger, and destroyed the girl’s car with an ax, Fox 8 reports.
That’s when Evans, 28, came out of the home with a gun and fired off three rounds into the air, police allege. LaFrance posted a video of the fight and “warned those messing with her daughter to beware,” according to the police report.
“The defendant also bragged on Facebook telling the victim that suffering two black eyes was not the end and she would use a gun,” the report read.

LaFrance allegedly admitted to police on Tuesday that she got into a fight with the teen, and said her girlfriend fired off the shots.
Police arrested the mother on numerous charges, including strong-armed robbery, child abuse and aggravated battery. She was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $38,000 bond, the Herald reports.
Evans was also arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and firing a gun in public.
Judge Mindy Glazer ordered LaFrance to stay away from the school and remanded her to house arrest before decreasing the bond to $7,500, WPLG reports.
“You need to stay away from Carol City High School unless you are with your child at a school event,” Glazer said.
“I see how old you are,” the judge said, according to the Daily Mail. “It’s time you act your age, not your shoe size.”
Miami-Dade Schools Police Chief Ian Moffett also issued a statement about the ordeal.
“This type of behavior and conduct — an adult violently battering a minor — is unacceptable and will not be tolerated at our schools,” Moffett wrote. “We thank the community and all those who provided valuable information, making it possible for our detectives to take the adult into custody and face the criminal justice system. This unfortunate incident reminds us that it is important for parents and adults to model the type of behavior we want to see in our children.”
