GEORGETOWN, Ky. – In Feb. 2015, the Scott County, Kentucky school board voted not to renew the contract of Superintendent Patricia Putty.
The firing of the superintendent, who had been on the job since 2008, was a pretty big deal in the community. Parents, taxpayers and other residents clearly deserved to know why the move was made.

But when asked by reporters to explain the decision, school board Chairman Haley Conway said, “I would love to tell you stuff. I’m walking through a minefield of glass right now, and I’m just trying to tiptoe,” according to Kentucky.com.
According to the news story, “Putty had been a source of continuing controversy, particularly after the board approved a new contract in 2012 that boosted her pay more than 15 percent, from $127,260 to $147,000,” the news report said.
So what did the board do? It replaced her with Superintendent Kevin Hub, who was paid an initial base salary of $152,953 in fiscal year 2015-16, which along with disability insurance, life insurance and a vehicle allowance came to $156,497.
That’s quite a bit more than the $147,000 that his predecessor was paid following her controversial raise.
The school board also paid both its share and Hub’s share of his annual retirement contribution in 2015-16, which totaled $24,250.
That brought his total annual compensation to at least $180,747.
