Senate Democrats are pushing a new Climate Change Education Act to pay states and schools to promote the “overwhelming and undeniable” theory that humans are ruining the planet.

The bill – sponsored by at least 15 Democrat senators, including 2020 presidential candidates Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Bernie Sanders – would task the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration with launching a grant program for public schools, universities and nonprofits to support “formal and informal climate change education.”

In K-12 schools, the goal would be “to ensure that students graduate from high school with high climate literacy.” The grant program would encourage states to develop “climate change curricula” and “integrate key principles of climate change education into existing kindergarten through grade 12 State academic content standards, student academic achievement standards, or State curriculum frameworks,” according to the bill.

In colleges, the focus would be on preparing students for “green collar jobs in the future green economy, such as green construction, design, technology, health, engineering, business, and policy studies, including sustainability science.” Universities would also “implement State teacher training programs” that align with the state climate science curriculum.

The bill asks lawmakers to approve $20 million per year for the next five years – a total of $100 million —  to run the program through a newly created “Climate Change Education Office” at NOAA.

“Despite the immediate danger posed by climate change, many middle school and high school teachers lack the training to teach students about it,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein, of California, posted to Twitter. “Our bill would create professional development grants for teachers to ensure they are getting the best education they can.”

Climate change is a hot topic in public schools, where teachers have warned about human impact on the environment for decades. But the issue is especially relevant amid calls for a Green New Deal by freshmen Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that’s gained the endorsements of several Democrats vying for president in 2020.

The 29-year-old socialist partnered with Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey to debut the plan they claim would create jobs through government run programs similar to President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal. Details of the plan, however, proved to be fantasy, from the total elimination of fossil fuels, planes and cars to government guaranteed jobs, college, healthcare, housing, and rebuilding every structure in America to run on “clean energy.”

Regardless, the Climate Change Education Act makes it clear Democrats want to “educate” teachers and students about the “immediate danger” Feinstein and her colleagues are so concerned about.

“Climate change is real and we need to be able to understand the complexities and challenges that our environment will face as a result,” Sen. Gillibrand said in a prepared statement. “The Climate Change Education Act would help equip our schools with the tools they need to help students understand the science behind climate change and help them become a part of the solution to this global threat.”

Folks online, meanwhile, aren’t sold on the impending doom of climate change and seem to think schools should focus on more important priorities.

“Federally dictated propaganda … AWESOME!!” Chad Tronetti posted to Twitter.

“How about reading, writing, and arithmetic?” George questioned.

“You know the country’s $20 trillion in debt, right?” Seeker of Ranch added. “Maybe we need more math teachers because our Congresscritters can’t count.”
