A Republican student group at Arizona State University is taking heat after announcing a fundraiser last week for the legal defense of Kyle Rittenhouse – the 17-year-old accused of shooting two people and wounding another during recent race riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

“Half of all funds collected this semester from Republicans United will be donated to 17 year old Kyle Rittenhouse legal defense fund,” College Republicans United posted to Twitter on Friday. “He does not deserve to have his entire life destroyed because of the actions of violent anarchists during a lawless riot.”

The post linked to a Republicans United “Charity Fundraiser” website devoted to Rittenhouse, which included alleged facts about the incident and victims involved.

According to the site:

Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, was the first killed. Video allegedly shows him chasing teen shooter & throwing something at him. Rosenbaum was a registered sex offender for a sex crime involving a child.

Anthony Huber, 26, was shot & killed in Kenosha, Wisc. at the BLM riot. He was filmed chasing down the armed teen and hitting him when he was on the ground with a skateboard. He has a criminal history that includes charges of battery & repeat domestic abuse.

The third who was shot (& survived) is Gaige Grosskreutz, 26. He’s a member of the People’s Revolution Movement. He was filmed chasing after the teen w/a pistol. He was shot at close-range in the upper arm. He has a criminal record that includes being intoxicated & armed w/a gun.

The fundraiser contends Rittenhouse traveled to Wisconsin from his home in Antioch, Illinois with other volunteers to help Kenosha residents clean up after looting and rioting in the name of Jacob Blake, a black man who was killed in a confrontation with Kenosha police last Sunday.

Blake was shot seven times and remains hospitalized.

“Kyle Rittenhouse is not a vigilante but a citizen who attempted to help in a city in chaos,” according to the CRU website.

The Arizona Republic attempted to contact College Republicans United about the fundraiser, but was rebuffed.

“CRU told The Arizona Republic ‘they do not speak to journalists with pronouns on their Twitter page’ and to ‘get a real job,’” the news site reports.

College Republicans United branched off from the student group ASU College Republicans, which denounced the fundraiser from the “radical, far-right extremist group,” The Associated Press reports.

“We condemn and call for a formal administrative investigation into the conduct and operation of the organization dubbed ‘College Republicans United’ at ASU,” the group wrote in a prepared statement. “We do not associate with or condone their recent actions involving contributing to the legal defense fund of a man who shot and killed several Americans in Wisconsin.

“We would also like to call attention to their history of racist and antiemetic conduct. As is well documented online, their recent comments and actions reflect a deep bigotry that we will never endorse.”
