MADISON, Wis. – Last week voters in the Wisconsin Democratic primary decisively rejected Kathleen Falk, Big Labor’s handpicked gubernatorial candidate.
This week a new poll suggests that Gov. Scott Walker leads Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett by eight percentage points in their pending rematch.

A recent column published by the Washington Post suggests that union leaders are already counting on defeat, and are pointing fingers at the Democratic National Committee. They say the DNC has failed to invest enough money in the recall effort, leaving Barrett to take a pounding from the well-financed Republicans.
The Post’s Greg Sargent wrote that “Top Wisconsin Democrats are furious with the national party – and the Democratic National Committee in particular – for refusing their request for a major investment in the battle to recall Scott Walker.”
That prompted the Post’s Jennifer Rubin to note that Big Labor spent $14.7 million on the recall in 2011, and that total has already been eclipsed this year. Money has been pouring in from numerous sources, including AFSCME ($524,000), SEIU ($500,000), the National Education Association ($668,457), the Democratic Governor’s Association ($500,000), the International Association of Firefighters ($250,000) and many others.
“But maybe this story is a sign of the DNC declining to throw good money after bad,” Rubin wrote. “It could be that national Democrats see the writing on the wall. If Walker survives, this will surely go down as one of the most asinine political gambits in recent years.”
