PRESCOTT, Ariz. – An education fund is being established for the families of 19 firefighters who died while fighting an Arizona wildfire in June.

Granite Mountain HotshotsSeveral education entities are working to set up a fund for the families of 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots, who tragically died while battling the Yarnell Hill fire in Prescott, Arizona.

The Arizona School Boards Association is leading the charge and acting as the fiscal agent for the Prescott Granite Mountain Hotshot Memorial Education Fund, reports the Associated Press.

The ASBA is also partnering with the Arizona Association of School Business Officials, Arizona School Administrators, Arizona Education Association, Arizona Business Education Coalition and the Arizona Association of School Superintendents.

The primary focus of the educational fund is children from kindergarten through high school age and will cover anything related to education, be it books, fees to park at school, summer school or tutoring.

Yavapai County Superintendent of Schools Tim Carter said that there will be 26 beneficiaries of the fund. This includes the wives, the women engaged to Hotshots and all the children, even those not yet born.

Even if a family moves and needs educational help for a child in kindergarten through grade 12, “We’re going to provide it for them,” Carter told the Daily Courier, adding, “We will have to fund raise for 20 to 22 years” until the last of the children is grown.

Since the fund will have no administrative fees, 100 percent of all donations will be given to support the families.

Lawyers are currently working on drafting the proper legal documents that’ll be finalized when the unborn children of Hotshots arrive, reports the AP.
