NEW YORK – A school principal who failed to act on a series of tips from students, resulting in the alleged rape of a fifth-grade girl, may lose her job.

bronx principalThis past summer, Anthony Criscuolo, a teacher at Public School 386 in the Bronx, was arrested for raping a fifth-grade student in his parked car.

Criscuolo allegedly told the family of the 10-year-old that he was taking her to an awards ceremony, but instead allegedly drove her to a Queens parking lot and attacked her.

A few days after the attack, the teacher sent the girl a sick apology, reports the Daily News.

“I was too rough,” the note to the girl said.

Criscuolo has been charged with rape and faces 25 years in prison if convicted. He is currently being held on $2 million bail, according to the story.

So how could this story possibly get worse? The fact that it might have been prevented if the school principal would have only used her better judgment.

Students at the school repeatedly warned Principal Angelyn Donald that something was not right between the teacher and the student, according to the news report.

The victim’s classmates reported – a month before the attack – that the teacher had kissed the girl in the back of the class and regularly passed her notes.

But Donald failed to report any of this information to authorities, and now state education officials want her fired.

“Department of Education employees have an obligation to report any suspected incident of sexual misconduct,” said agency spokesman David Pena in the story. “The principal will be reassigned away from the school and we will be seeking her termination.

According to investigators, different students on three separate occasions approached the principal and told her that Criscuolo had kissed his victim in the back of the classroom.

“I don’t know anything about that,” Donald told the Daily News. “I have no comment.”

Donald reportedly told the students that she didn’t believe them and that she wanted proof. She allegedly told the students to stop spreading rumors, according to the report.
