CORVALLIS, Ore. – To listen to Covallis, Oregon city councilman Mike Beilstein, murderous Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara was “a real idealist.”

A citizen got up at a city council meeting Monday to voice his concerns about a proposed gun ordinance.

But he strayed off his prepared notes to ask Beilstein why he had a Cuban flag propped up near his nameplate at the council’s table.

“I’d like to ask Mr. Beilstein why you are displaying the Cuban flag at an official meeting in the presence of veterans of this great nation. Cuba’s a communist nation. They’ve funded and aided in the training of people who probably shot at these gentlemen here.”

The man continued, “I noticed you didn’t face the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance. You didn’t hold your hand over your chest when we recited the Pledge of Allegiance. So, my question is: where do your loyalties lie, sir? Is it to us and the Constitution or the Cuban nation or some other third party?”

Beilstein leaned forward as if preparing to respond to the question, but the mayor interrupted the citizen and said he could ask his question of the councilman after the meeting.

The speaker can be seen shaking several attendees’ hands towards the end of the video.

LaughingAtLiberals caught up with Beilstein in the parking lot after the meeting, just before the councilman pedaled away on his bicycle.

Beilstein admitted being a Communist, called Karl Marx a “great humanitarian and an intellectual” and murderous revolutionary Che Guevara “a real idealist.”

“What about all the people he killed with the guns you want to limit?” the citizen journalist responded.

“When you’re fighting a war, you know, people get killed. You know, or else you get killed,” Beilstein said.

“So you’re in favor of guerrilla insurrections to take over government. Do you not realize the irony going on?” the blogger asked.

The councilman didn’t have much to say in response.
