HAMMOND, Ind. – St. Casimir School parent Eleanor Torres said “you could hear a pin drop” as principal Lorenza Pastrick recently read a prepared statement to parents about a school official caught roaming the halls naked.

“She was crying as she read it,” Torres told the Northwest Indiana Times. “Lots of parents are very angry now. I’ve got to go home and question my daughter to find out if anything ever happened to her. They also didn’t tell us if he would never come back. They told us about the pysch evaluation. They told us he was going to get treatment.

“They hemmed and hawed on whether he would be able to come back,” she said.

St. Casimir Catholic School Pastor William “Bill” O’Toole, 45, was removed from his post at St. Casimir and All Saints Catholic churches in Hammond by the Catholic Diocese of Gary, which also ordered the father to undergo a psychological evaluation after he was allegedly caught roaming the school’s halls naked, according to the news site.

Police were called to the school Sunday, Aug. 9 when a neighbor reported seeing a naked man through the building’s windows. Officers arrived and a secretary let them in, though she was unaware O’Toole was at the school, ABC 7 reports.

“Officers located an adult male in a state of undress inside of the school,” Hammond Police Lt. Richard Hoyda told the NWI Times. “School officials … were already on scene and had knowledge of the situation. The man was allowed to dress and at that time he was not placed under arrest.”

Police did not identify O’Toole, but the Diocese did in a statement Thursday in which spokeswoman Debbie Bosak said “no other persons were involved and, being a Sunday, there were certainly no children present.”

“The secretary was not aware of Father O’Toole’s presence in the building. At that time, police indicated it was not a criminal offense and no charges were filed.”

“At this time, Father O’Toole has stepped down as pastor of St. Casimir and All Saints. He will be on a leave of absence and will be undergoing a psychological evaluation at the direct request of Bishop (Donald J.) Hying,” according to the statement.

School officials noted that St. Casimir School is private property, so technically O’Toole didn’t do anything illegal by airing out his birthday suit, and said O’Toole had no prior issues in his past.

“He apologized and said it’s a regrettable lack of judgement on his part,” Gary Catholic Diocese Superintendent Barbara O’Block told the news site.

Parents were understandably upset when Casimir officials broke the news of O’Toole’s behavior in a special meeting Wednesday.

“Parents came away from the meeting voicing concerns about whether it had ever happened before, if any children had ever been harmed and whether O’Toole would be removed from his position,” NWI Times reports.

Torres said a lot of parents are considering pulling their children from the school over the ordeal.

“I’m on the fence. If he returns, he will need to be kept far away from children
