PLAINFIELD, Conn. – Officials in Connecticut put two schools on lockdown Thursday over a threat made against a school in Indiana.

NBC Connecticut reports Plainfield High School and Shepard Hill Elementary School were put on lockdown around 8:30 a.m. today after Vernon police received a call about a potential threat posted to social media.

PlainfieldhighschoolPolice contend someone threatened to open fire and set off pipe bombs at Plainfield High School, prompting officers to increase security at all schools in the district. Investigators with Plainfield, Vernon, and South Winsor police worked with the FBI to track down the threat, which was re-posted at one point by someone in South Winsor, according to the news site.

Authorities eventually realized the original threat was directed at Plainfield High School in Plainfield, Indiana, and lifted the lockdown around 10:45 a.m., the Hartford Courant reports.

Fox 59 reports the Plainfield Community School Corporation in Indiana – the real target of the threat – closed schools today as police continue to investigate multiple threats against the high school and a specific female student. The threats, posted by a fake Facebook account, started late Wednesday night and continued until early morning.

Danville Police Chief William Wright told the news site those threats are connected to a similar threat that also shut down Danville schools Thursday, the last day before the winter break.

The situation at Plainfield and Danville schools also prompted officials at Martinsville Schools to institute a lockdown, through there have been no explicit threats targeting those school districts. Fox 59 reports nearby Franklin Community Schools are also on a “Code Yellow Lockdown” after a threat directed at the high school there, as well.

That threat eventually turned into a series of threats that canceled classes for Friday.

“At this time it is unknown if the threat made at Franklin Central High School is connected with the threats that shut down Plainfield and Danville schools,” the news site reports.

“The school looked like a zoo when I picked up my kid,” Franklin parent Penn Oakes posted to Facebook Thursday. “Cops, bomb squad, fire truck, etc.”

“What has me upset is the fact that this is the third threat this week at FCHS and I see it on social media this morning,” Christy Edwards wrote. “No phone call.”

“Is this really the nation we’ve become?” Jason Sipe questioned. “If we are going to buckle at every threat, the terrorists have won.”

“I would rather buckle at these threats than risk my kid’s life,” Kerri Sparrow countered.

“I agree with Kerri Sparrow!” Kelsey Ann Lawyer added.
