FRESNO, Calif. – Troy Pope, editor-in-chief of Fresno State’s student newspaper The Collegian, thinks there isn’t much of a difference between Donald Trump and Adolf Hitler.

“Trump’s America is the Fourth Reich,” according to the newspaper’s recent editorial “Donald Trump is going to get us all killed.”

The op-ed by the newspaper’s editorial board calling Trump a racist and fascist came out Monday, but it’s The Collegian’s front page that’s raising eyebrows and prompting intense criticism for going over the top, the Fresno Bee reports.trumpishitler

“Trump is railing against Muslims, Mexicans – basically people who aren’t white, and he’s becoming popular because of that. That’s what’s dangerous,” Pope told the Bee. “That’s no different than Hitler rallying the German people against the Jews.”

The front page of Monday’s The Collegian features a large portrait of an angry Trump with the headline “Seig Heil! Living Nazi Germany in Trump’s America.”

According to The Collegian:

We cannot have a president who verbally berates his enemies in public, gives out their cell phone number and calls them a “pussy.”

The hardcore racist and fascist people supporting Trump don’t want to kick out Muslims and undocumented Mexicans – they want to murder them.

These people that normally keep their backward racism under the rock in which they live, are voting to be openly racist. Trump gladly brings the racism and xenophobia out of people – as any good fascist would.

That’s what people don’t see. These people pulling up to the polls in their trucks and wielding a rifle shouting “Merica,” don’t care about the economy – let alone diversity and social justice.

They were likely anti-Muslim before 9/11, and now use it as an excuse to be openly racist in our supposedly sophisticated, modern 21st century.

If we let them elect Trump, there will be lynchings.

The editorial goes on to point to Japanese internment camps in the U.S., and alleged Native American genocide as evidence of how things can turn ugly with the wrong president, and alleged a President Trump could spark a World War III.

The editorial was accompanied by photo illustration of Trump’s head transposed onto Hitler’s body performing a Nazi salute in front of the White House. Ironically, the Bee points out, the student newspaper won 13 awards – including best website – from the California College Media Association over the weekend.

Fresno State President Joseph Castro defended the Trump attack as “freedom of the press” and urged those with complaints about the editorial and graphics to write in to The Collegian.

Former Fresno city councilman Jerry Duncan posted his reply to the article directly to The Collegian’s website: “With garbage like this, obviously our education system has seriously failed us.”

The vast majority of those who commented on the college news site agreed with Duncan.

“Saw this at school today, how embarrassing,” commenter JoeR_40 posted. “Good thing no one reads your garbage anyway.”

“I will not be voting for Trump,” Jeff T wrote. “That doesn’t make this garbage with publishing.”

“The old internet rule is that the first person in an argument to compare their opponent to Hitler automatically loses,” he added. “In this case, everyone who read this has lost. I loathe Trump, but no more than I loathe this mindless, childless nonsense.”

“Such precious little mal-educated Special Snowflakes. Pearl-clutching lefties all,” poster LeLeMans wrote. “It’s going to be worth electing Trump just to see all of these ignorant twits have the vapors for the next 4 years.

“And although we certainly don’t want anyone to die, we DO want secure borders and we in fact don’t care about your ‘diversity’ agenda,” LeLeMans continued. “When you demand diversity in brain surgeons and airline captains, I’ll know you’re serious.”

“This article is absolute drivel and further proof the left has no clue how to write an article let alone knows what America is about. You call racism whilst making hasty over generalizations about a group of people. Your liberal teachers likely approve but your hypocrisy is clear. You talk about labels but you labeled his supporters with your ‘merica’ statement,” Millkowski Supertramp wrote. “And people will be hanged? Really? Talk about fear mongering.”
