FLORISSANT, Mo. – A senior prank at Missouri’s McCluer High School Wednesday started with a smoke bomb and ski masks and ended with an asthma attack and students injured by firecrackers.

“I was walking with my friends going to my seventh hour and then I heard people scream so I looked behind me and I saw people in masks. As I was about to run that’s when I got hit in the back twice with two firecrackers. I think they were M-80s or something,” freshman Jordan Buchanan told Fox 2.

Buchanan said the school besieged by masked men who tossed smoke bombs into the cafeteria around noon, and the prank quickly devolved from there.

“It started off with a few firecrackers and it started getting bigger after that,” he said. “I just saw people in masks so I took off running.”

The running triggered an asthma attack, but officials would not allow the student back into the building because of the melee, which also included water guns filled with urine and bleach, Fox 2 reports.

Buchanan said he texted his mother, who rushed to McCluer.

“When I got here and talked to the principal it was smoke bombs, fireworks, those cherry bomb canisters that are in a can, bottle rockets, and also water guns filled with bleach and urine,” the mother said.

“They would light them and then throw them and run,” Buchanan said of the fireworks. “But when they were chasing me and everyone in the hallway they were throwing them and running at the same time.”

Fox 2 points out that school officials sent an email to parents reporting only that smoke was detected inside the school and it was determined to be a smoke bomb before firefighters arrived. The statement did not reference fireworks, urine or bleach, according to the news site.

School officials said they identified students responsible for the chaos and vowed to punish them according to school policy. The stunt occurred on the last day of school for seniors.

Buchanan, meanwhile, is left with injuries on his back from the incident.

Parents and others who commented online were outraged by the senior prank, and several called for criminal charges against the students involved.

“That is NOT a senior prank!” Peggy Hardt posted to Facebook. “That is assault and vandalism, I hope they are charged with both.”

“That’s a pretty thoughtless prank. With all the shootings and stuff going on they probably could have come up with something different. What if those kids didn’t know it was a prank…what if they assumed it was guns being shot? I’m all for pranks, but this is a little over the top,” Lori Paradowski added.

“Why is this even classified as a prank?! Masked men inside a school (in today’s world). Spraying urine and bleach on students. This story should be focusing on why have there been no arrests yet,” Roger Vincent wrote.

“Clearly we as a society have failed them,” Mike Sitka commented.

“They failed themselves,” Martha Latka countered. “They made their choice.”
