NEW YORK – A Harlem music teacher at the center of a child molestation lawsuit allegedly confessed that he “hit” a student’s penis “by accident,” among other strange sexual behavior with his young male students.

Court records show gospel singer Darnelle Watts, who worked in an afterschool program at the Promise Academy, allegedly confessed to a string of sexually creepy conduct with students between the ages of 10 and 13 that he mentored over several months.

Watts was arrested on child molestation charges and fired from the school in October 2015, but he was never mentioned by name and the circumstances surrounding his departure were not revealed to parents until his alleged victims recently filed a civil lawsuit against Watts and the school last week, the New York Daily News reports.

“He is the most despicable human being on the face of the Earth,” Rosemarie Arnold, attorney for two boys allegedly abused by the teacher, told the news site.

Watts initially denied any wrongdoing when confronted by investigators last year, but the civil lawsuit shows the 28-year-old later admitted to various sexual misdeeds and attempted to explain them away.

“My accident means that we would play where I would hit him there and he would hit me there in the penis,” Watts allegedly told police. “I’m 6-foot, 3, he’s this tall. It’s just a game.”

The lawsuit centers on “severe and pervasive sexual abuse of” two former male students that included touching their exposed genitalia, and wrestling to “feel their bodies underneath their clothes,” and argues Watts “sexually abused many children who were his students and charges.”

In one exchange with police, Watts allegedly said “my goodness, my God. I did ask (student) to pull his penis and I pulled out my penis. I touched (student’s) penis and (student) touched my penis.

“But I did not tell him to finish me off,” he said, according to court records.

Watts also told investigators a student saw a picture of his penis on his phone, police allege.

“I do have a picture of my penis on the phone because I was sending that picture to someone,” he said, the Daily News reports. “I’m not circumcised. I like girls.”

Watts alleged carried out his sexual depravity “often under the guise of an educational mentor,” according to the lawsuit cited by the Daily News. Arnold said the school and city are listed as plaintiffs because officials “received numerous complaints from plaintiffs, co-employees, students and third parties” about Watts’ behavior.

“My clients are doing awfully – having horrible nightmares and bad anxiety, as a child would after being abused by a person in authority who they trusted,” she said. “If there was anybody at the school who’d been paying attention, this would not have happened to my client.”

According to the Daily News:

Watts pleaded not guilty to the charges, and is out on $50,000 bail. He has kept busy during the pending criminal case, singing with a gospel choir and working as a minister at Childs Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ.

The news sit also pointed to several YouTube videos of Watts’ singing performances, both in church and on the street, including a video of him singing “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” along a sidewalk, and one of Watts leading lessons for the COGIC International Youth Choir.
