ATCHISON, Kan. – Police believe long-time Atchison Middle School teacher and county Democratic party co-chair Robert Bulk is a drug using pedophile who solicited sex from a 14-year-old boy.

Atchison Police arrested the computer science teacher on Friday and charged him with electronic solicitation of a child and sexual exploitation of a child, though what exactly he’s accused of doing is unclear. KCTV reports the alleged crime involved a 14-year-old boy.

It’s also unclear whether the alleged victim was a student at Atchison Middle School, where 39-year-old Bulk taught sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, according WIBW.

“This arrest is the result of an investigation that focused on unlawful activity involving a child under the age of 16 between March and June,” Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson told the news site.

Aside from the alleged sexual abuse, Bulk was also charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, KWCH reports.

Atchison superintendent Susan Meyers told WIBW she’s “concerned and saddened” by the allegations against Bulk, who had taught in the district for 17 years before he was placed on leave pending his criminal case.

He taught fourth- and fifth-grade students at Atchison Elementary before transferring to the middle school, KCTV reports.

Bulk also served as co-chair of the Atchison County Democratic Party.

State party officials called for him to resign from his position in a prepared statement Sunday.

“In view of the charges against Robert Bulk, the Kansas Democratic Party has asked Mr. Bulk to immediately resign as co-chair of the Atchison County Democratic Party, turning over all of his responsibilities to his co-chair until this matter is resolved in court,” the statement read.

Bulk’s arrest, of course, sparked outrage from parents and locals.

“Here’s a little background on this worthless human being … this man has always been very odd,” Amber Cox posted to Facebook. “When I was in school, he cheated on his wife for years with another male teacher. The way the two men flirted at school was downright nasty, right in front of students.

“I may be mistaken, but I believe he is still with the man he left his wife for,” she continued. “I had him as a teacher and so did (my) daughter up until six months ago when I switched her schools.”

“How many times does this have to happen?” Kathy Golden wrote. “Seems like every single day there’s a new story like this. Are these people doing background checks on potential teachers? I just don’t get it.”

“Third one in just a few years to be charged in Atchison school district!” Kimberly Gore-Thomas posted.

“This is great advertising for home-schooling,” Mitchell Bradley added.

“No charges should be pursued. He didn’t mean to,” Cary Coffey said, mocking the recent FBI decision to recommend against charges for the country’s leading Democrat, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, over lying repeatedly about mishandling classified information.

“There was no intent to harm this boy. It just happened,” Coffey continued. “This should be referred to the FBI for their interview without being placed under oath, followed by a refusal to press charges. It all speaks to ‘intent.’”
