RAVENEL, S.C. – A former school janitor faces felony charges after police believe he stole more than two dozen Apple iPads from a local elementary school over the summer.
Police arrested E.B. Ellington Elementary School janitor Marshall Kendrell Scott, 33, for grand larceny this week for allegedly stealing 27 iPads from a locked storage closet at the school sometime between May 31 and July 27, The Post and Courier reports.

Police contend Scott, who had keys to the facility, admitted to taking the tablets from the storage closet, and said he hid the devices in a recycle bin he hauled to his car, according to WCIV.
Investigators told the news site there were no signs that the closet was forced open.
Ellington principal Wanda Hughes alerted authorities to the missing devices, which had an estimated value of at about $15,000. Hughes told police she received word that someone was attempting to sell the iPads in the Hollywood area, which is where Scott lives.
“She also said the school’s internet technology department had placed a lock on the devices so that when they connected to the internet they became disabled and sent GPS coordinates to the school, an incident report states,” according to the Post and Courier.
Charleston County School District spokeswoman Erica Taylor told the news site Scott worked at the school through a district contractor, Service Solutions. Scott was booked into Charleston County Jail and his bond was set at $15,000, though it’s unclear if he’s made bail.
WCSC posted the district’s formal statement on the situation:
The Charleston County School District is committed fully to cooperating with the Sheriff’s Office during this ongoing investigation. Further, this district intends to push for prosecution under the fullest extent of the law.

Folks who commented about the theft online seem to think that’s a good idea.
“This makes me sick,” Diane Hewitt posted to Facebook.
“$15,000 is a very low bond when you steal education from kids,” Dawn Blizard added.
News reports posted to Facebook show Scott is at least the third janitor to face charges for stealing iPads. KIII reported in May about Dubose Intermediate School janitor Graciela Bueno, who was charged with stealing six iPads from the district.
Devondrick Law, a 19-year-old janitor at the Framingham Public Library in Massachusetts, also allegedly cried like a baby and confessed when police confronted him about stealing three iPads from his employer in June, Metro West Daily News reports.
