PORTLAND, Ore. – The day after officials with Portland, Oregon schools sent a notice to parents that the national creepy clown epidemic has yet to impact local schools, police arrested a clown outside of a middle school for scaring students and charging the principal.
Portland Police arrested David Dahlman, 55, at Floyd Light Middle School on Thursday morning on charges of menacing disorderly conduct in the second degree. Dahlman was wearing a clown mask and boxing gloves at the time, The Oregonian reports.

According to the police report, Dahlman “walked his grandkids to the school bus stop wearing the outfit before creating the disorder outside the middle school.”
KATU reports Dahlman was shadow boxing outside of the school around 8:30 a.m. when an assistant principal approached him.
“The assistant principal tried to speak to the suspect, who then charged at him and threatened him with physical violence,” according to the news site. “The suspect then ran away to a nearby mobile home park and hid inside one of the residences.”
Dahlman’s arrest is the latest in a string of creepy clown related incidents across the country over the last month, some of which involved threats to students or schools online and others actual encounters with clowns near schools, playgrounds and wooded areas.
Dozens of schools in most states have issued warnings to students and parents about the situation, which has involved clowns attempting to lure children into the woods with candy or money, and clowns attacking students at school bus stops, EAGnews reports.

Administrators at at least a dozen schools have imposed lockdowns or canceled classes as a result of clown sightings or online threats from creepy clowns. In several cases, students have been arrested for making terroristic threats online after threatening students or schools.
On Wednesday, Portland authorities sent an email to parents informing them that the Portland Police Bureau had “not received information to suggest that there is a credible threat in Portland, but are emphasizing that criminal activity or actual threats should be reported to 9-1-1,” The Oregonian reports.
David Douglas School District spokesman Dan McCue told the news site officials followed up with a Thursday email to parents that “attempts to pivot the message from clown alert to if you hear of anyone who thinks it’ a funny prank to dress up like a clown, it could be dangerous for them.”
Dahlman’s arrest follows the arrest of at least three Texas teens this week who issued killer clown threats over social media in multiple school districts, causing hysteria among students, Fox 4 reports.
Police also arrested three teens in LaGrange, Georgia for similar threats, as well as a 13-year-old girl in Virginia who allegedly attempted to solicit a creepy clown on social media to kill her teacher, WEVC reports.
