BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – An Indiana University student attempted to send a message to skunks that have plagued his fraternity house on campus last Friday, and he now faces a felony animal cruelty charge.
IU student Andrew Baldini, 18, was arrested by university police and booked into the Monroe County Jail on a felony charge of torture of vertebrate animals at around 8:34 p.m. Friday, the Herald Times reports.

Police contend that a fraternity house on the Bloomington campus has faced problems with skunks, and one walked across a basketball court while members were playing a game last week.
“Police say … Baldini picked up a shovel and hit the skunk. The skunk was injured by the blow and limped away,” Fox 59 reports. “Baldini followed the skunk and hit it several more times with the shovel, killing it on a public sidewalk near the 1200 block of East 3rd Street.”
A passer-by witnessed the skunk killing, which took place near the IU bookstore, and reported the incident to university police, WTHR reports.
Baldini allegedly told police he was an associate member of the fraternity, which was not identified by the media.
