PLANO, Texas – A Texas high school teacher lost her job and her wedding was called off after police allege she had sex repeatedly with a 16-year-old student in one of her classes.

Plano Senior High School algebra teacher Alaina Ferguson, 23, was arrested Wednesday on a sex assault charge over a two month relationship with a student that started around the beginning of the school year, the Dallas Morning News reports.

An arrest affidavit contends a student in Ferguson’s class turned in a test with his Snapchat username and the two began conversing online. Ferguson and the student later met up in Lewisville, where they had sex on a park bench, and again later at an apartment belonging to the teacher’s fiancé, according to Fox 4.

While the fiancé was away for the weekend, Ferguson, the student and one of his friends ate pizza and played beer pong, the teen told police, and the two had sex again while the friend walked a dog.

The student told police the two had sex in the fiance’s apartment on several occasions, and most recently had sex in his truck after a football game on Nov. 4, WFFA reports.

The arrest affidavit also claims Ferguson sent the teen nude images and provided alcohol.

“Ms. Ferguson told [the student] that she knew it was not the right thing to do, but it felt right at the time, and that she was going to break it off with her fiancé because she didn’t feel anything with him,” according to court records.

“I heard the kid was just talking about it to his friends, and I guess a teacher or student overheard it,” Plano Senior High senior Andy Flores told CBS DFW.

“She’s kind of good looking,” Flores said, “so she’s attractive.”

Another senior, Samuel Balderrama, believes the district’s practice of hiring young teachers is a contributing factor in the case and others with similar circumstances.

“It’s just more young teachers than older teachers,” he said.

The Plano Independent School District hired Ferguson in August, and she resigned in shame in October.

She was booked into Collin County Jail on Nov. 30 and was released Dec. 1 when she posted a $100,000 bond, WFAA reports.

The conditions of her release require her to wear an electronic monitoring device, deactivate all social media accounts, and to stay off the internet, according to Fox 4.

Student Youssef Badawi told the news site students are talking about Ferguson’s arrest at school.

“A friend of mine told me, and he heard from his friend,” he said. “And this friend new the guy how had relations with this teacher.”

“It’s kind of crazy,” student Saad Ahmad added. “It’s scary that this could happen between a teacher and a child.”

Parent James Bishop agreed.

“That’s very concerning to hear you’re sending your child somewhere you think is safe,” he said. “You want them to learn and get a good education but not that kind.”
