NEW YORK – Illegal immigrant students at Columbia University think they deserve free health care and “undocumented student specific scholarships and grants,” along with guaranteed summer housing and long list of other demands.

The student group “UndoCU” – also known as the Undocumented Students Initiative – posted list of 13 demands from Columbia University administration because some illegal immigrant students are “on the verge of homelessness” and others “are at high risk of deportation,” according to the group’s May 24 Facebook post.

“That the university is not active in aiding and ameliorating these problems demonstrates Columbia’s lack of intrinsic interest in its undocumented students,” the post read.

“We therefore present this list of demands upon which we expect the university to act,” the students wrote. “We are willing to work with anyone, to any extent, in order to resolve these issues. We refuse, however, to amend or change any of these demands.”

The demands include clarification on how university officials plan to prop up illegal immigrant students under former President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program if the program is eliminated or revoked by the Trump administration.

UndoCU students want reimbursement for a $70 per semester international services fee charged to illegal immigrants, and the university to reclassify them as domestic students.

The students also want reimbursement for required health insurance because current partial refunds leave “graduating students with exorbitant amounts of account balances which potentially hinders their request for academic transcripts and degrees,” according to the list of demands.

Other non-negotiable demands include specialized fundraising to “support undocumented students in both undergrad and grad schools,” the creation of a special ombudsperson who is an expert in illegal immigrant student issues, specialized training for counselors to help illegal immigrants, and sensitivity training for faculty and staff to become more sensitive to illegal immigrant needs and preferences, among other changes.

“Much like sexual health training, it is imperative that immigration subjects be treated with the proper language and information,” the students wrote. “It is unacceptable for students to be called ‘illegal’ in their own classrooms or for professors to tell us to ‘get legal.’”

Campus Reform attempted to contact UndoCU, but did not receive a response.

The group was formed just before Donald Trump’s historic election victory of Democrat Hillary Clinton, and the UndoCU Facebook page currently has about 485 followers.

Campus Reform also pointed out that Columbia University’s website lists a host of services already in place to cater to illegal immigrant students, including free legal representation, counseling and psychological services, as well as a special liaison between illegal immigrant students and administrators.

Fox & friends also featured UndoCU’s demands over the weekend, and the response online was not surprising.

“This is exactly what Obama accomplished in eight years,” Gramma Rose posted to Twitter. “Outrageous.”

“Unreal,” Will Troyer added. “This is what Obama has left us with and it’s just disgusting.”

“WHAT” Bear’s Bride posted. “I pay taxes & my child does not receive free healthcare and guaranteed housing!”

“Give free cookies to the mouses emboldens them to ask for houses,” PollySpin wrote.
