LEE COUNTY, Fla. – It shouldn’t come as much of a shock to hear that a high school girl has been very open when discussing her sexual activities with friends.

But it should come as a shock that the girl was engaging in these sexual encounters with a teacher.

Domenic Frank, a former foreign language teacher at Estero High School, allegedly entered into a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student, according to a news source.

Frank was fired from the district earlier this month.

He isn’t alone. The latest news reports indicate that teachers in Washington, Pennsylvania, and Illinois are also facing similar allegations.

In documents obtained by WZVN, classmates of the alleged victim told authorities that she admitted to them she was having sex with Frank and spoke openly about their relationship.

One student claimed in her written statement that the alleged victim told her she was talking with Frank on Facebook, later he called her, picked her up, and “when she got to his house, she was laying on his bed and he took all of her clothes off,” WZVN reports.

Another student testified that she heard rumors of the relationship, so she approached her classmate and asked if they were having sex. To the girls’ surprise, the victim reportedly responded with a quick yes.

Other students also testified that the girl told classmates that Frank is perfect and that she wants to marry him.

A senior at the school was surprised to hear how upfront the girl was with the relationship.

“I am surprised to hear it was so straightforward. That’s not something anyone should take lightly; especially a student-teacher relationship and her being underage and everything. That ruins her life and his career,” Stephanie Conner told WZVN.

Frank was teaching under a probationary period when he was relieved of duty. The case is currently under investigation by authorities and Frank has not yet been arrested.

Teacher sentenced to six months confinement

A former sixth-grade teacher in Tacoma, Washington was sentenced to six months confinement last week for sexually abusing a 12-year-old student in 2007, reports Komo News.

Keshia Shaw pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree child rape for her relationship with the student that lasted a little more than a year and a half.

The former teacher will receive credit for the four months she has already served in jail and could serve the remaining two months at home with a monitoring device, according to Komo News.

Shaw, who is suffering from multiple sclerosis, was shown leniency so that she can receive the proper treatment she can’t get in jail.

Court documents show that Shaw is developing facial hair because the jail took her off of a medication they feared would harm her blood sugar levels.

“I’m concerned that prolonged stay here with my condition will turn me into a 200-pound 3-year-old,” Komo News reports Shaw said.

The victim first came forward with the sexual accusations in 2012 when a family friend reached out to Child Protective Services.

Trial for former teacher delayed

Amber Kraus, a former Illinois high school teacher accused of having sex with a student, will not be tried until May.

Kraus originally pleaded not guilty in December to counts of criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse with a victim under 17, reports the Daily Herald.

She resigned her position at Grant High School soon after the allegations of the inappropriate relationship were revealed.

The former teacher has been offered a plea deal by prosecutors, causing the trial to be set back a few months. If she accepts the plea bargain, she must take a sex offender and mental health evaluation, which takes up to 45 days to complete.

Kraus remains free on bond. Part of the bail conditions restricts her from having contact with anyone under the age of 18 and she is not allowed to have contact with the victim, the Daily Herald reports.

She was an eight year veteran of the district before her resignation.

Former teacher sent to prison

A former Pennsylvania art teacher was sentenced last week to 15 to 48 months in prison for having an inappropriate relationship with two male students.

Cynthia Hartopp, 29, pleaded guilty to institutional sexual assault and corrupting a minor, reports the Pocono Record.

She will also be deemed as a Tier Two sexual offender, which requires a 25-year registration period for sexual offenders.

Hartopp was first charged after state police received a call from the school principal, who reported that someone alleged an inappropriate relationship between Hartopp and a 16-year-old student, the Pocono Record reports.

Police investigated the matter and the student admitted to kissing the teacher at her apartment. Authorities also examined her cellphone messages and discovered a similar inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Police interviewed that student and he confessed that Hartopp performed oral sex on him at her apartment in February of 2013, authorities report.

When asked to explain what led to these inappropriate relationships, Hartopp said, “I was going through a bad divorce from an abusive marriage and I just need someone to talk to, but I found it in the wrong place and now I’ve hurt everyone.”

Hartopp was fired from her teaching position shortly after the allegations.
