PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – A Florida mother is livid after her daughter said a third grade teacher bribed the young girl with lollipops for back and neck massages on multiple occasions.

The female teacher at Renaissance Charter School at Tradition, who was not identified by WPBF, allegedly convinced several students to give her back or neck massages during class time, and paid for her rub-downs with lollipops, mother Crystal Leon told the news site.

On one particular occasion, the teacher pulled Leon’s daughter out of class for her special treatment, the mother alleges. Leon said she also learned through social media that other Renaissance students are reporting the same experience to their parents.

“She came to my daughter’s classroom and asked her teacher, ‘Hey, I need her for five minutes,’” Leon said. “Then she brought (my daughter) into an empty classroom, and said her students gave her a headache and (she) needed a massage.

“(My daughter) gave her a neck and back massage and she sent her back to class,” the mother told WPBF.

Leon reported the incident school officials and the charter school’s corporate headquarters, as well as to local law enforcement.

School officials “told me the teacher was suspended for two days during the investigation and then the investigation was over,” Leon said.

Renaissance’s parent company, Charter Schools USA, issued a worthless statement about the ordeal:

“Our highest priority is the safety and security of our students. We take all allegations very seriously and conduct a thorough investigation. We have taken all appropriate actions however we cannot discuss any specific student or personnel issues.”

The Port St. Lucie Police confirmed an investigation is ongoing into the incident, but did not comment further.

Leon told WPBF that when the teacher was put back in the classroom, she vented her frustrations on Facebook, and other parents responded that their children had similar experiences.

“I just want parents to be aware. Ask your kids questions. I was just fortunate enough that my child told me,” Leon said.

The incident comes at a time when teachers across the country are literally being arrested every day for sexually abusing students in their care, often times by easing students into sexual acts by grooming them with seemingly borderline conduct – such as massages.

Even so, online commenters like Tim Barker question: “What is so bad about helping our teachers out with a quick neck massage?

“As long as that is all that happened, I don’t see it as a big deal,” Barker posted to Facebook. “I’m sure everyone can find a better cause to put their energy into instead of ruining this teacher’s life.”

Jim Trebowski provided the appropriate response to Barker’s post.

“Because, these days, a teacher should know better than having a pattern of physical contact with a student,” he wrote.
