THUNDER BAY, Ontario – The ”white privilege” movement isn’t limited to the United States.

Canadian radicals have taken up the banner of the angry movement, which portrays black people as victims, white people as villains, and does little to promote empathy and harmony between the races.

One of those Canadian radicals – Dave Cryderman of Thunder Bay, Ontario – apparently believes that racism is the foundation of North American civilization and culture.

“I don’t think it’s responsible for us to talk in terms of ending racism,” Cryderman was quoted as saying by TBNewsWatch.com. “I think if you want to talk about ending racism you have to talk about ending the structure of our society.

“The best we can hope for is to do a bit of harm reduction to try to get ourselves ready and in a place to be effective allies to people who are living with the struggle.”

To further his effort at “harm reduction,” Cryderman is preparing to host three workshops about what he believes to be “white privilege” in Canadian society.

The series of workshops is called “The White Problem.”

The most immediate problem, according to Cryderman, is that he is white. He still plans to lead the workshops, despite that unsolvable issue.

“The presentation has a problem in that I’m a white man leading this discussion about racism and colonialism. That is full of problems,” Cryderman was quoted as saying.

The workshops may not have a friendly tone to them, according to TBNewsWatch.com. Apparently organizers believe that white folks need to be told, in very clear terms, that they are living their lives based on unfair privilege and must learn to recognize and reject it.

“We’ve been trying the ‘be nice’ approaches for many years now, without enough success,” Walid Chahal, co-chair of Diversity Thunder Bay, told the news service.

“These workshops follow different strategies than the ones we normally adopt, but they are not about producing simplistic analyses and generalization of white privilege – nor are they about assuming that Whiteness is the experience of all whites.

“They are about problematizing Whiteness and its link to power. The workshops will enable participants to have deep understanding of the way White privilege works and how and why it persists and gets reproduced.”

The news report says the goal of the workshops is to “help form a network of people that recognize racism and how it persists in modern Canada.”

“One of the goals is trying to build a bit of capacity and a bit of community for people to establish a baseline about what racism is, what white supremacy is, what colonialism is and what our role in it is and how we benefit,” Cryderman said.
