PIERRE – South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard will face a challenge in the Republican primary from former state Rep. Lora Hubbel in 2014. One of her top issues: Common Core national standards.

South Dakota Governor RaceIn the Daily Reporter, Hubbel says she opposes Common Core and the new federal health care law.

Her website reads:

“Common Core is unconstitutional because it sets the Federal Government up as a monopoly in education. CC was not state-led but in fact was written by the National Governors Association (a trade association funded by many organizations…one being George Soros’ ‘Open Society’ and other far-left foundations. It had other authors and was funded by the Bill Gates Foundation. Recall Bill Gates has said via a ridiculous ‘equation’ that he wants ‘10-15% of the world’s population reduced by the use of new vaccines, healthcare and reproductive health services.’ It’s no wonder he stuck to computers with only 1′s and 0′s because the man’s math is abominable. These are not the people South Dakota moms want to write the standards and assessments for our children.”

South Dakota adopted Common Core national standards in November 2010, according to a state website.

Hubbel likely won’t be the first candidate in the 2014 election cycle to cite opposition to Common Core in his or her platform. And such truth-telling likely won’t land Hubbel at the head table at any of the NGA’s swanky galas.
