CONCORD, N.H. – A bill to fight back against the Common Core curriculum is going to be introduced in the New Hampshire State House of Representatives during next year’s legislative season, adding the Granite State to the list of states pushing back against this attempted federal educational takeover.

House Bill 1508 “requires the state board of education to terminate all plans, programs, activities, and expenditures relative to the implementation of the common core state educational standards which have been adopted or may be adopted by the state board, including any assessments and instruction based upon such standards.”

It is being introduced by State Rep. Lenette Peterson (R-Hillsborough) and has already garnered nine co-sponsors.

New Hampshire is following in the footsteps of other states such as Indiana and Florida by pushing back against the latest onerous federal power-grab. Largely unbeknownst to the American public, Common Core gives the feds the power to collect all kinds of data from children including Social Security numbers, blood type, records of school attendance, supposed learning disabilities, religious affiliation, disciplinary records, parents’ income information. The curriculum also eschews classic literature in favor of drab, government technical manuals.

While touted as a state initiative, the federal government is deeply involved in both the formulation and implementation of Common Core. Constitutionally, the federal government should not be involved in education at all.

HB1508 promotes decentralized government and takes control from unaccountable federal bureaucrats and puts it back into the hands of the people. Common Core’s proponents deceptively claim that the curriculum is not the handiwork of federal bureaucrats because it was conceived by the National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO). However, they were only put in charge of Common Core because it is illegal and unconstitutional for the Dept. of Education to issue a copyright. In fact, the NGA has received tens of millions in taxpayer cash from the federal government over the course of many years. Once again, the feds and their lackeys are trying to snooker the public into accepting yet another unlawful usurpation of power.

Big money is banking on this government/corporate takeover of education, and they have all of their heaviest hitters from Barack Obama to Bill Gates to Jeb Bush out there cheer-leading for this educational heist. That means it is incumbent upon us to support efforts like HB1508 and to make sure that they are successful. Whether you are living in New Hampshire or not, there is much you can do to get involved and stop Common Core in your community.

If you live in New Hampshire, contact your legislators and politely urge for them to support HB1508 and keep the hands of federal bureaucrats off of your educational system. After it is officially introduced, the bill will be in the House Education Committee until we can pressure legislators into taking decisive action on it. If you live in a state that has yet to pass legislation stopping Common Core, please urge your state legislators to introduce a bill similar to HB1508 in NH immediately.
