LAFAYETTE, Ind. – An Indiana physical education teacher faces five felony child seduction charges after he alleged engaged in sex acts with a 16-year-old student dozens of times in recent months.

Jake Robinson, 37, an assistant varsity football coach and physical education teacher at McCutcheon High School was allegedly in love with the student – who is not named in court records because she is a minor – and bought her gifts, the Lafayette Journal Courier reports.

One of the gifts, a Calvin Klein jacket, was allegedly recovered by police when they searched a bedroom at Robinson’s parents’ Lafayette home where he has stayed since his wife filed for divorce Oct. 3. Two days later, Robinson allegedly kissed the girl and told her he loved her, according to the news site.

Robinson and his wife have three children, including an 18-year-old son who attends McCutcheon, divorce records show.

The victim told police she first met Robinson as a freshman when he was her gym teacher, but the relationship didn’t escalate until more recently. She told police the two engaged in sexual encounters between 45 and 50 times over the last three months, the first instance of which occurred a few weeks after the Oct. 5 kiss, according to court records cited by the Journal Courier.

Some of those encounters allegedly occurred during the school day.

“After the first time they had sex, (the student) indicated that there were several occasions when Robinson would take her to his parents’ house, they would have sex in his bedroom, and then Robinson would take her back to school,” according to the teacher’s arrest affidavit.

Police also recovered text messages that allegedly referenced gifts Robinson gave to the teen, as well as sex acts that occurred as recently as Jan. 8, when the girl left a friend’s house to meet up with Robinson.

From the Journal Courier:

“I am wearing the earrings you got me,” she reportedly texted him Friday morning, the day of his arrest.

“Hope you like them,” he replied.

“I do! thank u babe,” she wrote.

“Anything for you,” Robinson texted back, according to court documents.

Other texts were more revealing:

“omg last night was so fun,” the girl reportedly texted Robinson Friday morning, within hours of his arrest at school.

“Yes. Lol. I was just daydreaming about when you gave me h… Mmmm 🙂 best ever!” he allegedly responded.

On Monday, Robinson requested a public defender because he wasn’t sure if he could afford his own attorney on his $41,000 salary, but Tippecanoe Superior Court 1 Judge Randy Williams wasn’t very accommodating.

“I’m not inclined at this point to appoint a public defender to represent you,” the judge said, according to the Journal Courier.

Robinson pleaded not guilty to all five charges and is currently on administrative leave from his teaching duties. He faces up to six years in prison for each charge, and a fine of up to $10,000. Williams set Robinson’s bond at $5,000 surety plus $500 cash and imposed numerous restrictions on his potential release until his May 19 trial.

“Do not be present at schools, playgrounds or day care centers unless you receive prior approval,” Williams said, the news site reports.
