CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two North Carolina mothers face assault charges for allegedly punching a school bus driver in the face and upper body during an altercation earlier this month.

Sisters Tiara Henderson, 28, and Josephine Henderson, 35, were arrested last Friday on charges of assault and interfering with a school bus over an altercation with a 54-year-old bus driver who stopped near Amity Place and Farmingdale Drive in east Charlotte Sept. 11, WOSC-TV reports.

“We did not go to the bus stop looking for an altercation. We went to the bus stop to get a resolution, because the kids were scared to get on the bus,” Tiara Henderson said. “I never hit that woman. I wouldn’t do that.”

Both Hendersons allege their children reported that the bus driver is a meanie who yells at students in her care. Tiara’s 5-year-old son was in tears because he didn’t want to board the bus, according to Fox 8.

When the women confronted the driver about the accusations, the woman allegedly refused to discuss the issue and became angry, before eventually driving off, Tiara Henderson said.

“I didn’t want my son and my nephew going anywhere with her,” she said. “As my sister is standing there, in the doorway, not on the bus, she puts the bus in drive, and my sister’s moving along with the bus as she pulls off.”

Police and witnesses provided a somewhat different take on what transpired.

“I saw them yelling from the door,” neighbor ken Eagle told WOSC-TV, adding that there were other students on the bus already. “If I was that driver, I would have just shut the doors and drove off.”

“How can we discipline our children about how to aft out in public if we go out and act outrageously?” questioned Maxine Goodwin, another neighbor.

Both Hendersons are now banned from the bus stop, as well as their children’s school – Idlewild Elementary School.

School officials would not discuss the incident with the news site, though folks on Facebook had plenty to say.

“To protect the safety of the children and CMS staff parents aren’t allowed on the bus and actually a bus driver doesn’t have to discuss any issues with parents or other guardians at a bus stop. There are proper channels to handle complaints,” Bianca Whitaker wrote.

“Let’s also keep in mind you have 1 bus driver to up to 75 students. I’m sure she might have yelled a time or 2 or 3 or 100 times to keep the kids in line. She is responsible for the safety of all those children! Not to mention this was a 54 year old woman?!”

Rebecca Todd Blake, like most others, seemed to agree.

“And one of the moms on TV (is) upset she got arrested in front of her son. Wow, but you can assault a bus driver in front of your son?” she wrote. “I swear, dumb people.”

“On the next episode of hood rats gone wild …,” Shakira Florence wrote. “It starts at home, parents setting poor examples for their children, parents teaching disruptive behavior. The woman should’ve been embarrassed for her child seeing her act like an ass which got her arrested.
