SAN DIEGO, Calif. – A Muslim student at San Diego State University who claimed she was attacked by Trump-supporting racists in a stairwell on campus wants police to drop the investigation after they debunked one of her claims.

The student, who has not been identified, told university police in November that she was wearing a hijab when two men confronted her in a stairwell in Parking Lot 12, muttered something about Donald Trump, then snatched her purse and backpack, NBC San Diego reports

The woman said the men appeared to be in their mid-20s, and robbed her in the middle of the day, around 2:30 p.m. Her friend, Alisha Shariff, told Fox San Diego the men invoked Trump’s name to justify the attack before stealing her friend’s car.

“They were saying things like, ‘Now that Trump is president get ready to start fleeing.’ Then they proceeded to push her around and she wrestled with them,” Sharif said. “My religion, just being so visible, it breaks my heart that I’m such a target for most people just because of the religion that I choose.

Lt. Ronald Broussard told the news site at the time the case was under investigation as a suspected hate crime, strong-arm robbery and auto theft.

SUSU Police Lt. Greg Noll told NBC San Diego this week – eight weeks after the student reported the crime – that investigators later learned the girl simply forgot where she parked, and the alleged robbers didn’t steal her car after all.

Police also said the student is no longer willing to testify about the incident, and just wants it to go away.

“The remaining portion of the investigation included looking at all surveillance video, re-contacting the victim on several occasions and attempting to verify statements related to the entire case,” Noll said.

The alleged “victim” still contends she was attacked by Trump supporting thugs, she just doesn’t want to pursue the supposed crimes, he said.

While it remains unclear what, exactly, happened at San Diego State University, Muslim students at numerous other college campuses have also reported alleged hate crimes that turned out to be lies.

Yasmin Seweid, an 18-year-old Muslim student at New York’s Baruch College, told police she was accosted in a subway train on her way home from school by three men who screamed “Donald Trump” and other racist obscenities, cornered her, and tried to rip a hijab off her head on Dec. 3, The Washington Post reports.

Seweid was later charged with misdemeanors for filing a false police report and obstructing government administration when she allegedly admitted to police she made it all up, New York Police spokesman Adam Navarro told the news site.

Conservative political columnist Ann Coulter pointed out last week that virtually the same scenario has played out at the University of Michigan, Louisiana State University, University of New Mexico and other places since Donald Trump’s historic election victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton in November.

“The only incidents of actual ‘hate’ since the election have been entirely in one direction: against (mostly white) Trump supporters. This isn’t surprising given the climate of hate being spread by the media,” Coulter opined. “At this point, any claim of ‘hate’ directed at Muslims, blacks, gays or Hispanics by Trump supporters should be treated as if it’s a UFO sighting: presumed false, unless documented with irrefutable evidence.”
